2 Peter 2

Even after Peter finishes his opening remarks in chapter 1, reminding us that "the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost", he has to address false doctrine.

Peter tells us there will always be those who spread false doctrine, but as we learned from chapter 1, "Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust."

False doctrines and turning from the truth is running rampant among us today as vs 12 describes them-"natural brute beasts…speak evil of the things that they understand not". They are turning their ears from the truth and being turned unto fables. Just as Paul told the Thessalonians in 2 Thess chapter 2, "with all deceivableness of unrighteousness, they received not the love of the truth that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:"

Peter wraps up the chapter by telling us that "it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them."

Because we have hope in Jesus Christ let us cling to that. 2 Peter 2:9 "The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations." We will be tempted, but we will not be persuaded. Let's be REAL MEN who "watch and pray", "pray without ceasing", "search the Scriptures", "buy the truth AND SELL IT NOT!"
